Bernard Quaritch Ltd is looking for a part-time packer/shipper to join our small and friendly team.
About the role
We are seeking a packer/shipper to handle the domestic and international shipments of our stock of rare books and manuscripts, starting in January. The role is part time, approximately 20-25 hours per week, working flexible hours at our premises in Bloomsbury.
Pay is commensurate with experience, starting at £12 per hour.
Key responsibilities
- Packing of antique books, manuscripts, documents, photographs, and other items of stock
- Arranging the collection and shipment of orders, selecting the most appropriate courier for each shipment
- Handling basic shipping paperwork e.g. shipping invoices, customs declarations, commercial invoices
- Fielding any follow-up queries about shipments, chasing up shipments, and liaising with shipping companies by telephone or email
- Maintaining supplies of packaging and shipping materials, and keeping packing room in good order

About you
- Good attention to detail
- Comfortable working by yourself and managing your own workflow and responsibilities
- Excellent time management skills
- Comfortable using basic office IT software
- Confident lifting and moving boxes of books and fragile items
- Comfortable navigating flights of stairs
- Fluent/native English, both spoken and written
- Right to work in the UK
- Minimum GCSE grade A-C in Mathematics and English, or equivalent
Some previous experience working in a mailroom environment or with shipping companies is preferred, but not essential. Training will be provided as required.
